In Warsaw, the Mercedes E220 CDI is rented by people who need a large, calm saloon for a few days of heavy driving. At the 2006 facelift the same OM646 engine gained 20 PS and 60 Nm. In everyday driving around Warsaw the difference is hard to notice, and on the road it shows mainly when overtaking. Our pre-facelift E220 CDI has the same cabin, automatic gearbox and 540 l boot.

E270 CDI 2.7 five-cylinder diesel, 177 PS (2002–2005); E280 CDI 3.0 V6 diesel, 190 PS (2005–2009)
The five- and six-cylinder diesels gave the E-Class more power and torque. Our E220 CDI has a 150 PS four-cylinder with two balancer shafts that damp vibration, so it runs smoothly and uses less fuel on the road than the bigger diesels.
Mercedes E320 CDI (W211) or Mercedes-Benz E220 CDI?
2002–2005 3.2 I6 diesel, 204 PS; 2005–2009 3.0 V6 diesel, 224 PS
From 2005 the E320 CDI had a smaller engine, a 3.0 V6 instead of a 3.2 straight six, and still 20 PS more. Our E220 CDI is clearly less powerful, but it is the same saloon with an automatic and a 540 l boot, and in town you feel the difference far less than on the motorway.
Mercedes E500 i E63 AMG (W211) or Mercedes-Benz E220 CDI?
E500 V8, 306 PS (until 2006) and 387 PS (from 2006); E63 AMG 6.2 V8, 514 PS
The most powerful W211 versions had V8 engines, and the E500 came with Airmatic air suspension as standard. These are cars for collectors and performance fans. Our E220 CDI is the sensible E-Class for everyday driving and longer trips, with a diesel that uses little fuel at a steady pace.

The W212 succeeded our generation, with the newer OM651 four-cylinder diesel. If you are looking for an E-Class from that era, our older 2005 W211 has the same layout: a large rear-wheel-drive saloon with an automatic and soft suspension, which is what the E-Class is valued for on long journeys.
