Compacts of a similar size, but the Peugeot 308 THP has an automatic gearbox and a 156 hp petrol engine, while the Ford Focus has a diesel and a manual. The Peugeot is livelier and needs no clutch in a Puławska jam; the Focus uses less fuel on the road and has a 385 l boot. Ford Focus or Opel Insignia 1.8?
The Ford Focus is a compact and the Opel Insignia a class bigger, both with a manual gearbox and front-wheel drive. The Insignia has more rear space and a boot of around 500 l, but it is long, so parking in the tight streets of Stara Praga or Saska Kępa takes patience. The Focus is easier to fit in, and its diesel uses less than the Opel's petrol. For daily driving choose the Focus; for a family trip, the Insignia.

Ford Focus or Mazda 5 1.8 MZR?
An interesting pair, because the second-generation Ford Focus and the Mazda 5 share the same C1 platform. Mazda uses it for a seven-seat body with sliding rear doors, while the Focus is a conventional diesel hatchback with a 385 l boot. For five people and low fuel use the Focus is enough; for six or seven, or for lifting children into car seats every day, choose the Mazda 5.

The second-generation RS sent 305 PS through the front wheels alone, helped by a Quaife limited-slip differential and RevoKnuckle suspension, and the RS500 was built in 500 units. Today it is a collector's car. Ours is the same generation as a five-door everyday hatchback.
