Who BMW 530i xDrive suits in Warsaw
In Warsaw, the BMW 530i xDrive is chosen mostly by people who drive for work. A meeting in an office tower by Daszyńskiego roundabout, a client in Służewiec and a dinner in the city centre make up a day when a quiet cabin matters, and so does a car that looks right at every address. Companies also book it when they host a guest from abroad and want to collect them from the airport in a car of the right standard.
xDrive earns its keep when the weather turns, in November rain on the Wisłostrada, on a wet expressway or on a winter trip to the Masurian lakes or the mountains. The X3 is an SUV with a higher seat and a 550 l boot with a wide tailgate, so it copes better with a pushchair, bikes inside and kerbs on new estates. The 530i xDrive is quieter on the motorway and has all-wheel drive, which this X3 lacks (sDrive means rear-wheel drive), and it looks the part outside a hotel or an office. A family with luggage will pick the X3; business trips and winter favour the 530i.

BMW 530i xDrive or Mercedes-Benz E220 CDI?
Two large automatic saloons with similar boots (530 l and 540 l), but from different eras. The Mercedes E220 CDI is a 2005 W211 E-Class with a diesel that sips fuel at a steady pace and has plenty of torque. The BMW 530i xDrive is well over a decade newer, more powerful, all-wheel drive and better equipped. For a long round of client visits where fuel matters, the Mercedes does the job; when the car has to impress and stay sure-footed in winter, take the BMW.

Both have xDrive, so they stay composed in winter and on a wet S8. Age and body set them apart. The X3 xDrive20i is a previous-generation (F25) SUV with a 184 hp engine and a 550 l boot, good for a gravel track to a country plot or a ski trip. The 530i xDrive is a newer, more powerful and quieter saloon for long drives and meetings. Choose the X3 when you need ground clearance and space, the 530i when comfort and class matter.

BMW 530i xDrive or Opel Insignia 1.8?
The Opel Insignia is a sensible alternative to the 530i when you simply need a big car for the road. Its cabin is similarly roomy and the boot holds around 500 l, but it has a manual gearbox, front-wheel drive and a 140 hp 1.8 petrol, so overtaking needs more room. The BMW brings an automatic, xDrive and a far stronger engine. For a week of driving around Mazovia the Insignia will do; for meetings, airport runs and winter the 530i is the better car.

2.0 diesel, 190 PS, 400 Nm, rear-wheel drive or xDrive, 2017–2023
The 520d is the two-litre diesel 5 Series and uses less fuel than a petrol on a long run. It has clearly less power than our 530i xDrive with its 252 PS, though, so overtaking on a single carriageway needs more room. The body, cabin, 530 l boot and eight-speed automatic are the same in both, and ours has xDrive, which was only an option on the 520d.
BMW 530d (G30) or BMW 530i xDrive?
3.0 I6 diesel, 265 PS (286 PS from 2020), 620–650 Nm, rear-wheel drive or xDrive
The 530d is a six-cylinder diesel with a huge amount of torque, valued on the motorway and for towing. Our 530i xDrive has a 252 PS four-cylinder petrol that is quiet and smooth in town, and on trips around Poland you will mostly notice the difference when accelerating hard with a full load.
BMW 540i (G30) or BMW 530i xDrive?
3.0 I6 petrol, 340 PS (333 PS from 2020), 450 Nm, rear-wheel drive or xDrive
The 540i has six cylinders and 80–90 PS more than our 530i. You feel the difference under hard acceleration, but the body, interior, 530 l boot and eight-speed automatic are the same. If you want a 5 Series with xDrive for winter and long trips, the 530i xDrive gives you the same car with a more economical engine.
BMW M550i xDrive (G30) or BMW 530i xDrive?
4.4 twin-turbo V8 petrol, 462 PS (530 PS from 2020), 650–750 Nm, xDrive
The M550i was the first petrol M Performance 5 Series, with a V8 and 0–100 km/h in 4 seconds. It is a car for people chasing performance. Our 530i xDrive has the same all-wheel drive and the same interior, is calmer and uses far less fuel, so for a business week in Warsaw it is all you need.
BMW 530e (G30) or BMW 530i xDrive?
plug-in hybrid, 2.0 petrol plus electric motor, 252 PS (from 2020 up to 292 PS with XtraBoost), 420 Nm
The 530e is the plug-in hybrid 5 Series; it can run on electricity in town, but only if you charge it regularly. Our 530i xDrive has a conventional petrol engine, so you never need to look for a charger in Warsaw or on the road, and the power and automatic gearbox are similar.
BMW serii 5 G60 (od 2023) i elektryczne i5 or BMW 530i xDrive?
new generation, including the 520i (208 PS), 520d (197 PS) and i5 eDrive40 (340 PS)
The G60 succeeds our generation. It has been built in Dingolfing since July 2023 and is the first 5 Series with a fully electric version, the i5, plus a new interior with large screens. Our 530i xDrive is a 2019 G30 with a stronger engine than the entry 520i of the new generation, and with xDrive.
